Dr.
Selby was born in Evanston, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago. He and
his twin brother grew up and went to elementary and high school in the
adjacent suburb of Skokie.
Dick
(as he likes everyone to call him) earned a B.A. in philosophy from North
Park College in
Chicago, and a Master of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary in
that
same city.
He was ordained on April 26, 1972. After
serving churches in central Iowa,
northwest Indiana, and central Texas, and while serving churches in south,
then north Texas,
Dick
earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in Proclamation and Worship from Austin

Dr. Selby is
married to Beverly Tegge Selby, a native of Austin.
Bev is a self-employed piano teacher in their home in Farmers Branch. She is a past president of the Carrollton Music Teachers Association and
was named Teacher of the Year in 1999. Bev
also serves on the music staff of Flower Mound United Methodist Church.
She has offered her musical talents to God through the church in worship
services since she was in the eighth grade and in Sunday school since the
sixth grade.
Dick and Bev
have a blended family of four grown children and eight grandchildren.
One of Dick's
past hobbies was broadcasting, volunteering as a fill-in announcer at KEDT-FM, a
public radio station in Corpus Christi. Dr.
Selby has an extensive background in broadcasting as a pastor, and worked for a
year and a half as News Director of KIBL AM & FM in Beeville.
These days, Dick and Bev enjoy attending Dallas Symphony concerts and
taking short day trips to as yet undiscovered places.
