Traditional Sunday School:  Meets in Fellowship Hall

Summer 2010: Christian Commitment in Today’s World
Focuses on Christian commitment. The three units in this quarter explore the nature, foundation, and marks of commitment as they apply to Christians in today’s world.
Unit I, “The Nature of Christian Commitment,” affirms that genuine commitment is visible to others.  It sets Christian commitment within the context of the desire to please God and explores how believers sustain one another in their commitment.
Unit II, “The Foundation of Christian Commitment,” sets Christian commitment within the cosmic context of God’s plan for all creation. It describes the aim of commitment as giving glory to Christ and affirms that Christian commitment grows from a response to being chosen by God and sanctified by the Spirit. This unit also explores how the ability to stay committed is grounded in God’s faithfulness.
Unit III, “The Marks of Christian Commitment,” looks at how God sustains the faithful in all circumstances and calls them, through Jesus’ example , to claim life through serving others. It looks at how Christian commitment draws believers into the future, preoccupied with God’s mission in Christ. It describes the joy and peace of commitment and focuses on how human commitment is upheld by God’s commitment and faithfulness.

Fall 2010: The Inescapable God
This quarter’s study sheds a spotlight on a relentless, loving God. Through the experiences of Moses and the fleeing Hebrews, we see that God desires a covenantal relationship, founded in love and freedom, and exercised through obedience.
Unit I: God Reveals Unit I, “God Reveals,” has four sessions tracing God’s emerging relationship with Israel. The first three sessions approach the theme through the biblical stories of Moses: God calls Moses, God discloses the terms of the covenant, and the people lose faith in God’s and Moses’ leadership. In Session 4, God forgives Israel, and they vow to keep their covenant promises.
Unit II: God Sustains In Unit II, “God Sustains,” each session focuses on psalms that sing of God’s majesty, sovereignty and steadfast love.
Unit III: God Protects In Unit III, “God Protects,” we study psalms that extol the attributes of God who is good, everlasting, secure, and omnipresent.

Seasonal Sunday School Class-
Meets in Youth Room

The Seasonal Sunday School Class is a new class that will offer different book/topical studies throughout the year, while having breaks in between each study. Each topic is self contained, so it is designed so you can join us for a season if you have the time, and opt out of the next one. This will give everyone an option of participating in a Sunday School class that fits their schedule and/or their interests.

Our first topic will be a two part study on the New York Times best seller, "The Reason for God" by Timothy Keller, a Presbyterian Pastor in New York City. The hope is through reading this book and digging into scripture, we will be better equipped to counter people's doubts as well as communicate our faith. Other studies that will follow include the Book of Acts and 1 Corinthians. Join us for Part 1 from July to September and Part 2 from October to November. We will take a break during the holiday season, and start a new study after New Years.
